The Adventure Horses - The Best Fables about Horses
Once in a field lived a family of horses. It consisted of a father horse, a mother horse, and a baby horse. The three horses lived happily in the field and they had not a care in the world. The farmer ensured that they got their regular meal of oats and hay, they had a stable to live in and all day father and mother horse helped the farmer around the farm while baby horse played with the farm animals. The days passed blissfully and the three horses loved their life at the farm.
Baby horse enjoyed exploring the farm. As he grew, so did his curiosity. He wanted to know what was there beyond the farm that he lived in. He looked longingly at the distant lands and wished that he could go exploring all those unknown spaces. But the father horse was firm. The baby horse must not venture off by himself as father horse was well aware of the dangers that lurked in those regions. More than anything else father horse was afraid of the big wolf that lived around those parts and he knew that the wolf would dearly love to make a meal of the little horse. So he repeatedly warned the baby horse to stick to the farm where he would be safe and protected.
But as the days passed baby horse`s desire grew stronger. So one day when his parents were busy at the farm, baby horse slipped off unnoticed by anyone and nosed the farm gate open and finally he got what he wanted, he was out in the great unknown and he meant to make the most of it. The baby horse trotted along, enjoying the new smells and the unfamiliar sounds. He met many animals and birds on the road and exchanged friendly greetings with them, all the while thinking how wrong his father was. Finally, he came to a stream. Being thirsty he started drinking from it. He looked up and noticed another animal nearby. Now, this was the evil wolf that his father had talked about. But the mare had no idea what a wolf looked like. So when the wolf smiled at the horse, he was taken in and two grew friendly. The wolf asked the horse to come and see its house where it had a store of sweet wild apples. The horse willingly followed the wolf until they came to a dark cave on top of a mountain.
Knowing that the mare was powerless now, the wolf leered at him and showing all his teeth said, “Poor foolish horse, I am afraid this is the end of you. Your daddy is not here to take care of you. I am going out to get some salt and pepper and then I am going to make a meal out of you.” So saying, the wolf went out of the cave, leaving the mare bewildered and frightened.
Meanwhile, father horse not finding the baby horse anywhere guessed what must have happened. In a flash, he galloped up to the wolf`s cave in search of his son. Finally, he came to the desolate cave and spotted the wolf entering the cave. With one blow of his mighty foot, he had kicked the wolf out of the way. He then pushed his son out of the cave and the two flew like the wind down the mountain and then back to their comfortable old farm. Baby horse resolved that he had enough of adventures and never disobeyed his parents again.
