What comes to our mind when we talk about horses? Horses are meant to be brave, ruthless and daring animals which have now been domesticated for various uses by human beings. Since our childhood, we used to hear of different stories where a king would ride on a horse with its force behind him on a battlefield. Or, maybe a more romanticized version is when a knight would come blazing on his horse to save a queen in dire straits. More so when a fairy would come down from heaven on the back of a white flying horse. Dreamier to relate when the fact is that pure white horses are the rarest.

There are more than 300 breeds of horses across the world with the majority being in the Americas. Horses are known to be domesticated since 3000 B.C. The proof to that is the underground findings of horse remains tied to a chariot.

Coming back to the image we get when mentioning the word horse. Most of us would relate a horse to be a companion of a well-known king/queen who drove bravely in the fields of war and wins. However, those were the olden days as for now we mainly see horses being used to pull carts with heavy loads or being used for racing events where a lot is gambled over them. The major past time of the Arab people is also known to be horse racing where gambling is legal and is held in the presence of the elite class. Horse riding with time has come to be known as an art and is taught as a mandatory lesson to the princes of monarch ridden countries like the United Kingdom or the Arab.

Horses, in fact, are known to be intelligent and have a great sense of understanding. They are the hunted animals so they know by instinct when to stand and face the situation and when to run away from it. Their average life span is from 25 to 30 years with a few exceptions where the oldest horse is known to have lived till 56 years. Horses are known to be brave and would stand and fight when saving their young ones or when they would know that they can`t run. They are herbivorous and can eat up to 5 of their body weight every day. They need to drink as much as 38 to 50 liters of water every day. In many parts of the world, horses are used for different things like their milk, skin, meat etc.

Milk of a female horse was considered to be a rich source of protein by the Mongolians. They even considered a horses blood to be a rich source of nutrition as they would not need to eat anything for a few days after drinking the blood of their own horse.

Horses have the widest eyes in all the mammals on land today. They have better eyesight as compared to us as they can see clearly at night. Horses have been voted to be the worlds fourth favorite animal.

Though they are beautiful creatures, they look more attractive when grooming well. Some tools are needed in order to make a horse look attractive to our eyes after grooming. These tools include horse brushes like a curry comb, a dandy brush, a body brush, a hoof pick, and a towel or a polishing cloth. You need to tie the horse at first, and then start combing. You should start the movement from upwards starting from the neck to his rear. This movement should be followed every time. They need to be trimmed every 6-8 weeks.

You can keep your horse beautiful and healthy by taking care of its surroundings from time to time and help your companion from getting ill.
