Samson and Delilah - The Best Fable about Samson and Delilah
Samson and Delilah were two horses who lived with their master in a cozy warm barn. Samson, a pure white stallion was a good-tempered, happy horse and master always had a kind word and a pat for him. Delilah, on the other hand, was a fiery little black mare with a beautiful white star on his forehead and pure white socks but with the temper of a devil. She was a complete contrast to Samson with her quick temper and unpredictable antics. Tired of her tricks, the master often took to lashing her with his whip to curb her anger.
One day, pleased with Samson`s good behavior, master bought a pair of new stirrups and shiny new shoes for Samson. Delilah watched from one corner of the stables all the while as master fussed over Samson and fitted him with the shoes and stirrups. That night, when Samson was asleep Delilah spotted the stirrups, piled carefully next to him. Unable to control her jealousy anymore and nearly mad with rage, Delilah pulled at the brand new stirrups with her teeth until they were well and truly ripped to pieces.
Next morning, the master came to the barn with the usual feed for the horses. Setting down the pail, the master looked around whistling to Samson like he always did. Samson woke up with a start and looked around, searching for his new possessions. The master spotted them lying ripped and torn, next to Samson. Unable to understand how his favorite horse could have been so careless, he decided to teach Samson a lesson. Bringing out his whip, the master thrashed the poor horse until Samson fell injured to the floor. Still in a towering rage master stormed out of the stable vowing never to forgive Samson.
In the meantime, Delilah had been watching quietly from her corner. Seeing Samson lying hurt and injured, she was feeling guilty. Not knowing what to do, she set out to find the village doctor, the only one who could help Samson out of his pain. At last, she stumbled upon the doctor in a clearing. But the doctor demanded his fees. Delilah pleaded she had nothing to offer him, and finally the doctor offered to come and see Samson provided that Delilah will carry ten bags of hay on her back to his wife in the next forest. Delilah readily agreed and spent the next hour pulling the heavy bags of hay, back and forth. Finally, tired and exhausted Delilah begged the doctor to make haste and come and save her friend before it was too late. Impressed by her sincerity and perseverance, the doctor picked up his medicine bag and climbed onto Delilah`s back.
Quick as wind, the horse galloped through five counties and reached the stable in a trice. When the master saw them running towards him, he could hardly believe this was the lazy horse that had to be whipped to work. He accompanied the doctor to the barn where Samson was lying weak and helpless.
The doctor gave him some healing herbs and made a potion that he fed to Samson. He assured the master that Samson would be alright and no harm done by the next morning. With tears in his eyes, the master thanked the doctor with all his heart. The doctor pointed out that it was all Delilah`s credit that Samson was alive. The master resolved never to hurt Delilah again. Under his loving care , Delilah became much more gentle, and the master never had any complaints with her or Samson ever again.
