Before you buy a horse you have to decide where it will live. Horses do not live in an apartment or garages. You need certain conditions in terms of space, temperature, and environment.

Horses cannot be kept on the street. The stable must be heated and safe. The stable should be cleaned several times a day and the horse should be fed and taken for a walk.

It is ideal to have a stable near your home. You can leave the house, walk to the stable, greet the stableman, send him to the city and there you go – you will have your horse for yourself. But if there is no home, no stable and a stableman, then you have no other options. WAIT – is the place where the horse will live.

A loose box is a place for one horse in a stable, something like a fenced room. You can rent a loose box for your horse and the price will usually include mainly for the food, the services of the groom and for the stable cleaning. The groom feeds the horses every day and takes them for a walk. You can also rent a stable in the equestrian club, where the horse owner keeps his horse but has room for one more horse. He cleans the stall, takes the horse for a walk, feeds and waters, informs if the horse is sick.

What to look for when buying a horse If you are not so sure then it is best to examine the horse with a vet or experienced breeder.

  • Adequacy - approach the horse to see their reaction. If the horse takes treats, lets you pat, stretches and is willing to play, then these are good signs. On the other hand, it is not good if the horse is scared, clogged up in the corner, lays his ears or hisses.
  • Foot health - only a doctor can determine if it is good or bad. However, you must know that it is bad if there are brooches, bottoms, bruises or if the legs are swollen.
  • Hoof health – it is bad if there are cracks if it is rotting or the hoof is skewed.
  • Movement – take the horse for a ride, trot, and gallop. It is bad if the horse is lame. Limping is not always noticeable, so it is best if there is a doctor or an experienced trainer nearby.
  • Breath – after an active trot or canter listen to his/her breath. It is good if the breathing is even and restored in 2-3 breaths. Bad – if the horse cannot breathe normally for more than 10 minutes.

Horse passport – this document is very important. It confirms the breed, year of birth and keeps the history of the horse owners. Sometimes a passport can be lost or not drawn up for a purebred horse. For registration of a new passport, you will need to submit to the Institute of Horse Breeding a sales contract, photographs and all known information about the horse. You can even register a purebred horse.
